Karen Olsson, originally from New Brunswick, lived, studied, and worked in Newfoundland and Labrador before moving to Nova Scotia in 1997. Karen has had a long interest in art. She sketched as a teenager, but did not take art classes until moving to Nova Scotia. In the fall of 1998 she did an eight-week course in watercolour with Regina Cooper. In January 1999 she began the first of several 8-week watercolour classes with Nancy Crowe Samson. Karen also completed three 4-week sessions in oil with Audrey Hanrahan. Since then she has taken workshops with various artists, including Jude Caeborn, Nora Gross, Frans Ayelts, Mel Stabin, and J’Anna Jacqulin. Karen paints the people and landscapes around her home in North River, as well as photos taken during her travels. Karen lives with her husband, John Kennedy and two sons, Alexander and Erik.
