About the Truro Art Society

What is the Truro Art Society?

TAS was formed in 1969 to support the development of art and artists in the Truro and surrounding area of Nova Scotia by sponsoring individual and group exhibitions, offering available workshops and providing education and information to the artist community and its patrons. Run entirely by a volunteer membership of over 100 artists and community members from all over Nova Scotia, TAS puts on 6 to 10 exhibitions annually and sends out a regular newsletter to its membership.

Where are TAS exhibitions held?

TAS is accommodated in the recently renovated gallery space in the Nova Scotia Community College Truro Campus’ McCarthy Hall Library.

Why become a member of TAS?

TAS provides safe and supportive exhibition opportunities for its membership at regular intervals throughout the year.

Volunteering with TAS is a great way to learn how an exhibition is put together, from the initial contact with the artist to the invitations, publicity, opening reception and installation of the artwork.

TAS provides regular information regarding upcoming exhibitions, opening night receptions, and workshops to members through its newsletter.

How do I become an active member of TAS once I pay my dues?

Submit your artwork for exhibitions as part of a group show and/or request a solo show. Attend opening receptions. Get acquainted with other TAS members and the community.

Volunteer to help put on an exhibition, or become a member of our executive.

Attend the general and annual meetings advertised in the TAS newsletter..
